The eye disease macular degeneration is the most common cause for blindness in the
western industrial countries. Since the classical eye medicine is not able to help satisfyingly and
millions of people untreated, or despite some conventional medical treatment tries, nearly go blind, the
person affected looks for treatment methods in the alternative medical area. The most successful and most
popular alternative treatment we see at present the treatment by Hancke in Cologne, Germany.
Juergen Hancke is practitioner and certified optician. He has developed a worldwide
unique therapy method. About this treatment the media has often reported whereas his successfully treated
patients came to the fore. We would like to introduce the method and person Hancke and did an interview
with him.
Mr. Hancke, what exactly is macular degeneration? Could
you please describe in short the development of the disease?
Macular degeneration is an eye disease which leads nearly to blindness eventually.
Blood circulation, metabolism and nerve functions of the macula, the sharpest point of vision on the
retina, worsen. The function of the there placed visual cells decrease until the cells die eventually.
Therefore the visual power of people affected deteriorates until the central area of the retina is
completely blind.
What do you consider a cause for the macular
degeneration?
I am convinced that the macular degeneration is a disease with several different cause
possibilities. Generally the visual system must be a weak point within the body, which is genetically
determined. It is not absolutely necessary that at the parents also had an eye disease, but it can be. A
disease only breaks out when this weak system is overworked. Overstrain can occur by a straining to view
itself or for example also by emotional pressure, which by the connection of the brain areas rob important
capacity from the visual centre. This strain can lead in the long run to a diminishing of performance and
by that to a degeneration.
It is distinguished between the wet and the dry form of the macular degeneration.
Where is the difference?
The dry form, which occurs at 85 % of all macular degeneration affected I already
sketched with the development of the disease. With the wet form it additionally comes to a vessel growth
from the deeper lying vein skin into the retina, which by that can be lifted. The great danger with that
is that it can easily starts bleeding from these vessels and with that the retina can be destroyed. Thus
you can say generally that the wet form decreases more dramatically than the dry form.
How many people are affected? What age group is affected the most?
The macular degeneration is an eye disease where 50 Million people are affected
worldwide in the industrial countries. Alone in Germany one does speak of ca. 2 - 3.5 Million people
affected. The tendency is climbing. The vast majority are people of age but there are also youths
suffering from a form of macular degeneration. Statistically viewed every 4th from the 65th age old people
does have a macular degeneration..
How did you come to alternative medicine?
As certified optician I had a lot to do with people wearing glasses. Some did have of
course eye diseases. I had to learn that nobody could help by degenerative eye diseases. Since the people
affected came on a regular basis I could observe the ongoing decrease of the visual power as well as the
increasing helplessness. Since I already had been dealing with the connection Eye-Brain-Psyche for many
years, I knew what a positive effect the after my philosophy made pair of glasses had alone on a person
affected. A specific relief of the visual function of the brain not only brought my clients a visual
improvement. More and more people told me that this relief had also an positive effect on their eye
diseases and even other diseases of the body. This method to determine the glasses could be improved over
the years.
With a bad eye disease a therapeutic pair of glasses usually cannot help sufficiently.
Since there weren't any success promising starting points from the conventional medicine, I had to go
different ways. I knew, that acupuncture is very effective in pain conditions and this can only work, in
my opinion, via the brain mechanisms. If that was possible, then the brain can be activated also in the
visual centre. This assumption was quickly confirmed. The most effective points for the eyes I did find
exclusively in the forehead. There are many hundred points, which, according to the result of the
diagnostic, must be combined individually. Thus the method after Hancke was born. It consist of activating
by acupuncture and relief by a so-called therapeutic pair of glasses, which is tuned to the acupuncture
and the individual possibilities a patient brings..
On what foundation is your method based?
In my opinion degenerative diseases are generally functional disturbances. To save a
degenerated organ relief and activation must take place. Objective is to further the performance of the
organ respectively the entire system in which the organ lies. It is like with a mountain climber who
climbs up a mountain but cannot go any further and bit by bit falls down. I must relief him, to take away
his "backpack", activate and motivate him. Then he has a good chance to regenerate and to climb up that
mountain again or at least doesn't fall any further. With eye diseases the visual system faints.
Responsible for metabolism, blood circulation and nerve functions of the retina is the visual system in
the brain. Thus you need to activate and relief at that place. The activation takes place by the forehead
acupuncture developed by me. The objective is to increase the performance in the brain especially in the
visual centre. Thus the visual centre furthers the necessary body-owned regenerating mechanisms for the
eyes. For the most of my patients the relief takes place by wearing a by my method measured and made
therapeutic pair of glasses. These are different from regular glasses by special values, which relieve the
visual system in a certain manner and at the same time further them accordingly. Additionally the patient
gets certain behaviour recommendations by which he himself can contribute to deal with his visual system
in an according manner.
Could any eye doctor or practitioner with acupuncture experience do your method?
No. Alone for the glass determination after my philosophy the eye medical education
is not sufficient enough. As a requirement you need an education to certified optician and then one does
need to learn a lot in my practice. These measurements are necessary to determine the many acupuncture
combinations to know in the end what acupuncture points needs to be used. The classic practitioner also
does not have the possibility to use my method. He also must at least do an education as certified
optician to understand my method. At present I work on making the method easier workable and impartible.
The media already reported some of your patients' substantial visual improvements.
Do all have such a success?
No, some we cannot help at all. Some we don't take for therapy because the basis is
not promising enough. Most of the patients react good but not everyone does have massive improvement. The
most important goal is first, and this I discuss with my patients in detail, to stop the decrease of the
visual deterioration. Naturally we try in all cases to further the visual system above that. Each percent
of improvement is considered a blessing. We strive to making an effort what is possible.
We only therapy where the expectations of the patient agree with the possible outlook
we can give them. We want satisfied patients. The success of the therapy depends also on how good the
single patient reacts. Regeneration can only take place within the frame of the individual body,
psychological and genetic given. It is unfortunate you cannot tell exactly in advance how good a patient
may react.
Most react with stagnation of the disease or with small up to massive visual
improvement.
How long does the treatment have an effect? Is a
stand-still with the macular degeneration guaranteed by your method?
Of course not. We cannot help everyone. The lasting success depends also on how
consequently the patient wears the therapeutic pair of glasses and if he lives according to our behaviour
recommendations. His visual system is not ought to get over-worked. With most we manage to reach a
stand-still, with many the visual performance improves and this mostly with patients who lived according
to the recommendations.
Is there a risk with your therapy?
No. Since no surgical treatment is done and no medication is given there are no risks
or side effects. Just at the point where the needle is set in the area of the forehead it can come to
bruises from time to time.
Conventional medicine opens more and more up to alternative treatments and thus
comes closer to your area. How do you see the chances of conventional medicine and alternative medicine
working hand in hand?
I am open for working hand in hand and I like working with doctors. There are eye
doctors who wouldn't likely go an alternative route but there are more and more doctors who recommend me
to patients and also want to know how the success is realised. I am convinced that within the next couple
of years patients will demand alternative, human and holistic oriented treatment methods more and more.
This already happens today. I cannot agree more. There are more less patients satisfied with the
information given by conventional medicine, respectively are satisfied with the service but strive to
inform themselves thoroughly to decide on his own behalf as responsible people. More and more doctors
acknowledge this fact and engage themselves increasingly with alternative medicine. Altogether this would
make a good basis for cooperation of the conventional and alternative working medics, doctors and
practitioners. I'd wish for this for all patients.
